Fun Times With Family & Friends

This is the first time I've had time to blog or even get on my laptop since Wednesday! I was out of town spending every moment with family and friends! Since there was SO much happening this week, here's a bullet point list of what I was up to...

Wednesday
  • Drove out to Orange County for the week because Michael's sisters family was visiting from Texas and I had friends here for their baby showers.
  • Girls night with Michaels mom, his sister, and my two SIL's (who are both pregnant!)
  • We went to The Melting Pot (which was delicious and I've wanted to go for so long)!
  • Then we went to get massages!

Thursday
  • Beach day

  • Scentsy party
Friday
  • Train ride/Park/Zoo day

Saturday

  • Breakfast with friends (Alyse, Candace, Sheri, me, Kelli- Alyse and Sheri are pregnant)- I hung out with lots of preggo ladies this weekend!

I totally burned out after this and didn't take pictures the rest of the weekend. Need to update later with more!
  • Nieces birthday party
  • Double baby shower (Alyse and Sheri's)
  • Makeshift family photos
  • Watched The Lucky One with my parents
Sunday
  • Drove home in the morning and then went to church
  • Playing catch up with emails, blogging, laundry, cleaning!
And can I just say how grateful I am to be blessed with so many awesome people in my life?! I am also feeling so glad that I live in such a beautiful area that makes it easy to have fun in this sunny weather! I love Southern California. Speaking of Southern California...have you checked out the new blog?!

St. Patty's Day Weekend

This weekend was definitely not crazy like many of yours were! I don't really care about St. Patrick's Day and I don't drink (us crazy Mormon's lol) so it was another low key weekend with friends and family.

On Friday we met up with some old friends, Kristen and Daniel, from out of town and played at the park with our kids.

Michael had to go to work so Emily and I just hung out in Orange County for the night with my parents. I tried some strange oriental food (I can't even remember what it was) that they brought home for dinner. But I tried something new and that's a big deal! I like to stick with what I know.

Saturday was basically a lounge around and then do some grocery shopping kind of day.

Sunday, I dressed Emily up in her pretty new greenish (okay, more like turquoise) dress and her shamrock hair clip and we headed to church.

After church we just hung out at home and relaxed! Emily never takes naps on Sunday due to the time our church is at but that usually means she will go to bed a little earlier at least. Sundays are hard! I don't know how I'm going to have another baby ever. I'm already worn out with just this one! Especially since Michael works so much. I'm very excited he has like a week and a half off this month so hopefully we get to go do some fun things as a family!

A Walk In The Park

The last two weekends we have had have been so much fun!! Two weekends ago, on Sunday we went to my in laws house and had dinner with them. After the babies went to bed (well, Ellie went to bed but Emily was a stinker and fought it and won- her nana didn't mind), us "kids" (SIL's Jocelyn and Sarah, BIL's Jason and Tyler, Michael and I) went in the new hot tub that my FIL just put in their backyard. It was so much fun to hang out and talk out there.

The next day, after Emily had an amazing three hour long nap (probably due to a long night the night before), Jocelyn, Jason, Ellie, Michael, Emily, and I went to this really cool park in Orange County. It's called Irvine Park. They have a zoo (that we went to last time we went there), tons of trails, horse and pony rides, a train ride around the park, etc.

This time we wanted to take the girls on the train. It was so cute to see them both standing and looking around as we chugged along slowly around the park. They loved it!

Here are some pictures of the girls (in their well coordinated outfits) waiting in line for the train.

After the train ride we walked around the pond that had a ton of ducks. Emily wanted to dive right in with them so we had to hold onto her, much to her disappointment! We walked around the park, showed them all kinds of animals and stuff.

Then we found this awesome fenced in grassy field next to some picnic tables. The girls loooooved running around and playing freely in the grass. It was the cutest thing!!

It was so beautiful and great weather too. It was one of those life moments that you think to yourself that that is what life is all about. Family and love is what makes me so happy. I am so blessed!

After the park, we were all hungry so we went and got some lunch at Subway and ate it back at my in laws house. Eventually we went home later that evening. It was a great weekend!

What kind of "park parent" are you?

We all know that people like to give their two cents (whether asked for or not) on things that may not be any of their business. For example, when I was pregnant I got one particular comment from someone about the shape of my belly. I have found that that was just the beginning. Everyone seems to like voicing their opinions on very personal matters like epidural or not (I didn't get one- but I don't blame others who do), nursing or not and for how long (I pushed through the hard times and was able to nurse for over a year- but again, it's none of my business if others do that or not), how to feed the baby, how to clothe the baby, how to put the baby on a sleeping schedule (although, thanks to my SIL Jocelyn we were able to get Em on a schedule and in her own bed), whether to give them medicine or not, and the list goes on!!

As a first time mom it is hard enough to feel unsure of a lot of things but then when you have people left and right telling you how to do things, it can get even more stressful. If I ask for help, that's one thing. But telling me how to raise MY child? Oh, heck no!

Do they think I wouldn't do what I feel is best? What makes them think they have any right to tell me I am doing things wrong?

This came up the other day when I posted on facebook this blog post about what jeans are flattering and what jeans aren't. I like to look nice and I don't think there is anything wrong with that. But I got a comment from someone that said something along the lines of "I don't care. I would rather spend X amount of money on a cheap pair of jeans and feed and clothe my children". Was she trying to call me selfish for wanting a good pair of jeans? Does she think that if I buy one thing that I wouldn't be able to feed and clothe Emily? And does she think that I would buy those jeans if it did mean I couldn't feed and clothe her? That's just one example.

A friend of mine posted this article on her facebook about taking your kids to the park and letting them play and learn on their own, even if that means they can't climb something or get hurt in the process. It says that hovering over and helping your children be safe and do things they feel they can't do on their own is, pretty much, hindering them in the long run.

I asked around to hear some of my friends thoughts on that article.

"I think it is great for them to learn on their own. As long as I am comfortable that Finn is safe."- Andrew

"Moms that sit 15 feet away from their kids at the park are lazy and I usually end up disciplining their children."- Meagan

My thoughts? At this point, Emily is still too young for me to go sit down and watch her play. She puts things in her mouth and wouldn't be able to do much besides that if I wasn't there to help her up the stairs and down the slide. Will I always do that? No. Once she is old enough and capable of playing on her own, I will let her. But I will always be watching her closely and help talk her through or show her how to do things if she needs my help.

Another thing I would like to point out is that I think some parents ARE lazy at the park. Not all of the parents who are sitting far away are letting their children learn. They are lazy. I had to tell kids at the park to not go down the slide at the same time as Emily because they would slide right on top of her. I had to tell a kid to not hit his sister. A girl wanted to get on a swing next to Emily but was too little to get up on her own so I had her go get whoever she came with. See my point? These kids may be old enough to play on their own but it doesn't mean they shouldn't be supervised.

What do you think? Are you a "helicopter", a "sit down and let them play", or an "in between" parent?

Our Fun-Filled Weekend!

Okay, here is my weekend update/catch up post!

We had a good laugh at Emily as she had her pretty little jacket on and then picked up my purse and started walking around with it.

"I'll be waiting in the car!!"

We took Emily to the park...

We dog sat for my parents...

I went to a friends Bridal Shower...for some reason (maybe the angle and the fact I was wearing high heeled boots) I am towering over these girls. I assure you, I am about the same height or shorter than the rest at 5'4"! So weird to see me looking like an Amazon woman! Also? I am rethinking that shirt. I like it because it's loose but jeez, it really makes me look like I packed on the weight! But it was fun. It's always great to hang out with friends and celebrate!!

On Sunday, after church, we did a little Christmas decorating...

Emily has been loving all kinds of foods lately. Her new favorite thing is frozen vegetables!

We love our little girl!

Weekend Update

First, I never wrote that on Monday my parents came to visit and babysat for us so Michael and I could go to dinner. It was SO NICE. We went to Buffalo Wild Wings (we love it there but haven't gone in over a year.)

After dinner we went to Target to get a few things we needed. One of which was new shoes for Emily. We now have matching grey Converse! But hers are velcro high tops :).

While we were out, we got texts of what Emily was up to. They had a lot of fun with her with a big cardboard box they brought over and my dad read to her. So Cute!

This weekend was fun!

I got to spend time with my friend Kambree and she even spent the night in our guest bedroom. I love having her over! She is in the military and so is husband so they go months without seeing each other. Michael works a crazy schedule and I think THAT is hard. I don't know how she does it!

Emily fell asleep on me while drinking a bottle and watching TV for the first time...

On Saturday we took Emily to the park and then I went with my friend Stephanie to dinner and to see Breaking Dawn Part II. (Which, by the way, was SO INTENSE.) It was so nice to get out and see a movie. I hadn't been to a movie in MONTHS. Sad, isn't it?! Michael was nice enough to stay home with Emily so I could go out :). I NEED to see it again.

On Sunday we went to church. By the way, Michael got called to be Sunday School secretary and I got called to be the Primary secretary but I am also still teaching until they find someone to replace me for good. We were sad about this change at first because we really love the class we teach. They are such great kids. But I'm happy to still be serving in Primary (with children).

After Sunday naps (well, Emily and Michael napped- I used that opportunity to blog) we headed over to spend the night at Michaels parents house to spend some time over there. It's always fun to get together with family! Emily and my niece Ellie have fun playing together.

That was our weekend! I hope you had a good one too!

The Weekend Of Power Outages

Emily started sitting up on her own this weekend!

She has also gotten really good at inch-worm crawling and is getting more coordinated with feeding herself finger foods. Our little girl is growing up so quickly!

This weekend I took Emily to the park with our friends for our weekly day at the park on Fridays.

Michael didn't work Saturday night (he has every other one off) so we got to relax and watch a movie. Our power was off for a couple hours that afternoon so it got really hot in the house.

On Sunday we taught our class and then we came home and cooked dinner to prepare for having the missionaries over...good thing we cooked it early because our power went out again but this time from like 3:30 pm- 1:30 am. Ridiculous!! We opened all the windows, lit all our candles, and Michael was creative by bringing in a couple of the yards solar lights. Ha!

Emily and I went to bed at around 9:00 pm since there was nothing else to do. Besides the power outages it was a nice weekend!
