Slowly Sinking In

Thank you everyone for your sweet comments when I announced that we are having a girl! It's so fun to share our news and see how happy everyone is for us. We are so lucky!

We were and are so excited to be having a little girl! It's still sinking in, but let me tell you....I went shopping to buy a friends baby shower gift for this Saturday and while I was there, I couldn't help but get excited that soon I will be able to dress my baby girl up in some of those ADORABLE outfits! Dresses, bows, tights, little bathing suits..... I can't wait! I always loooooved all the little girl stuff in the stores but for some reason I always assumed I would have a boy so I never let myself get excited about the girl things. I'm so excited!!

Here are some pictures from our ultrasound on Tuesday. They are blurry and it was hard to get a good profile picture because of the position baby girl was in, but you get the idea!

Well, hello there little girl! As you can see, there is nothing between her legs and there are three white lines that determine she is female.

My baby bump is starting to be more and more noticeable. On Monday we went to get icees before we went to the movies to see Fast Five (which was actually good, btw) and the lady at the register was all, "I'm taking a huge risk in asking this but, when are you due?" I got so excited and told her that she was the first stranger to notice (well, notice and say something at least).

Could you imagine how insulting it would have been if I wasn't pregnant?! lol. She asked about the gender and at that time we didn't know yet. We went back for more icees yesterday and she was there. She remembered us and we told it her it's a girl :-).

I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot more of her as the weather keeps getting hotter. $ .89 cents for any size slurpees? Yes!

P.S- Has anyone else had a Pure Chocolate from The Coffee Bean? It's simply amazing. I would have it every single day if I could. It's like an iced hot chocolate.

Dr. Appointments (11-13 weeks)

Here's what happened between 6-10 weeks if you missed it.

Now for 11-13 weeks!

When we went in for the 12 week appointment to meet with a midwife and basically have a physical, we were telling her about the issue of having liquid buildup outside of my placenta and she said she couldn't help us figure that out since she isn't trained to look for those things. She is basically a nurse for pregnant women. She tried to find our doctor for us but I guess he left for the day already. She said we'd have to wait until our 13 week appointment.
While we were with her, she couldn't hear the heartbeat with the Doppler. She said that happens about a third of the time. Apparently my uterus is tilted backward instead of forward, but she said it won't be a problem. It will move during the pregnancy. I also found out I am Rh negative, but Michael is negative too, it won't be an issue. Anyway, since we couldn't hear the heartbeat, she let us see it instead. Which was JUST FINE with us!

It was moving around a lot and looked like an actual baby! Look at the head and the left arm is by its side, the right one is up around it's head. And you can see the body and then the little feet with toes!! I'm in love!! It was the most amazing experience ever. She had to keep telling me to put my head town, not to laugh, or scream, or do anything that flexes my abs. That was so hard!

We were both in awe of this little baby. Isn't it so cute?! It was about the size of a lemon at 12 weeks! There's nothing like watching your own baby, that is IN you, moving around and looking so perfect. It put us both more at ease about the complication but we still wanted answers.

On Tuesday I had my 13 week appointment for another ultrasound. We had been looking forward to this because we really wanted to find out if we still needed to worry. When we got there though, we soon figured out that I wasn't going to be seeing a Dr. and that it was just an ultrasound that someone takes measurements to see if everything looks normal so far. Luckily everything looked fine, but when we asked her if she could check for us about the other thing, she basically brushed us off and said that she couldn't. That she was only taking measurements. She sent us on our way, and we felt so defeated. Not only did we not get answers we were told we would get, but I felt like I missed out on seeing the baby because the screen was facing away from me. I did get a picture though!

As we were walking away, I decided I could not wait any longer to get the answers they needed to give us. I talked to a nurse and almost started crying about how we have been so worried, been on pelvic rest, and have been getting the runaround from everyone. All we wanted was for a Dr. to tell us if we still needed to worry about it!! She was THE BEST nurse I have ever met. She was so understanding and sweet. She made a couple phone calls and found the Dr. who was in the office and relayed our story.

Then finally that Dr. looked at the ultrasound pictures we had just gotten done (they were in the system), personally came and found us, and told us that our baby looks great and there is no more liquid build up. No more pelvic rest, and no need to worry anymore about it! THANK YOU!! We were so grateful that we finally got the answers we needed and that they actually finally seemed to care enough to help us out. It was really just a matter of sticking around and not leaving until we got what we needed from them. Sometimes being stubborn can pay off, apparently!

Healthy baby, healthy mommy, happy family!

Dr. Appointments (6-10 weeks)

When I was about six weeks pregnant, we thought we were losing the baby. It was the most awful night thus far of this pregnancy. The on call nurse (it was late at night) told us that the next morning we should go into urgent care so we did. We got to have our first ultrasound and were relieved to hear that things seemed to be going well, the baby was okay, but that I should go on "pelvic rest". The doctor looked around in there, told me I had nice looking intestines (ha!) and everything looked great, except for a little curve in my uterus or something, but she didn't say anything else about it so we let it go.

6 weeks.

When we got to eight weeks, we had our first official appointment with my actual OB/GYN, instead of the other lady that we went to in an emergency. We got to see the baby again, this time it was of course, a little more than a bean but still a blurry blob. :-)

8 weeks.

We got to hear the heartbeat, which is always an amazing thing! It's super fast and healthy sounding! However, you know that thing the other doctor looked over without saying much about it? Yeah...apparently that was some liquid built up behind the placenta, that was pushing on the area around the baby. They said that it should dissipate but that we needed to continue being on pelvic rest. They said there was potential of the liquid building up some more and that would push on the baby, which could cause issues.

When we went back at 10 weeks to meet with a nurse about getting blood tests done and all that fun stuff, we told her that we were still concerned about the liquid issue and were hoping we could get it checked out again. She basically told me that they don't usually do another ultrasound until I am 13 weeks. We would have to wait and continue to be careful. *sigh* Kind of sounds like none of these people care, huh? It's been frustrating.
