Our Independence Day Weekend

I've been feeling kind of lazy in the blog world but I'm trying to at least keep up with some things like my week/weekend recap, Never Ever Ever linkup on Tuesdays (are you linking up?!), and Bachelorette posts on Wednesdays. I also blog over at Southern California Blog

Anyway, here's our Fourth of July weekend post. Michael had to work, of course :(, so when our power went out on Wednesday night, Emily and I drove out to my parents house. A dark, no power house alone with a toddler all night? No, thank you! We spent the night out there and the next morning joined them at the annual Fourth of July church pancake breakfast. We ran into my SIL Jocelyn and Ellie!

Emily stuck to her strictly liquid diet. (Seriously, she barely eats anything!)

Then we hung out at my parents house for a while watching home videos that they are transferring to DVD.

When Michael woke up, we headed to his parents house to hang out.

And then Michael left for work. At around 6:30 pm we all headed to his grandparents house (as is tradition because they have the best view of multiple fireworks shows). We played in the pool, at some BBQ, and watched a bit of fireworks before heading home to get Emily in bed.

Emily hanging out with Papa (Michael's Dad).

The rest of the week has been filled with watching episodes of PLL (I'm a new fan thanks to Netflix)...

...and trying to get some work outs in.

That's pretty much our week!
Thanks for letting me use some of your pictures, Jocelyn!

Emily's First July 4th and My First Skinny Jeans

I bought my first pair of skinny jeans the day before Fourth of July so this worked out perfectly!

Patriotic nails, yes?!

Michael and I went to lunch at Chick- fil- A together and then came back to his parents house before he had to go to work. We tried to take a family picture!

After he went to work, Emily and I went to my parents house for a BBQ.

Emily enjoyed the hammock for a bit with my dad.

Then my sister Kristin and I tried to get some pictures...

We chased Emily down a lot because she is a fast crawler and likes to chase the dogs!

Look at that crawl stance!

After eating, my parents played with Emily. She loves books and music. Have I mentioned she dances now?! It's the cutest thing!

At 7:30 pm we headed to Michaels grandparents house for dessert and the fireworks show. They have a great view!

This is Kristin, Emily, and me in the caged in area with Emily, haha.

Gorgeous!

SIL Sarah, MIL Diana, BIL Tyler with Emily!

Four generations! Emily, me, my mom, and my grandma!

I was worried how Emily would do past her bedtime in the cold with fireworks but we swaddled her up and took turns holding her. She actually loved the fireworks!

It was a great day!

A Jam-Packed Holiday Weekend and a Prayer Request For My Niece

It's been a while since I've been on a computer! We left to go stay at Michaels parents house out of town last Friday and just drove home last night. Instead of going through a play by play of the whole thing, I'll list some of the highlights of our weekend/week so far. I know pictures were taken by other people of most of these things so I will need to hunt those down!

  1. Candace's baptism, luncheon, and then getting together that night to catch up with friends.
  2. An early birthday dinner for Jason and me. Michaels mom wanted to make us dinner and a cake before she left to Texas this month.
  3. Watched and cheered on Michael and his brothers as they ran a 5k race at the church. Pancake breakfast afterward.
  4. Buffalo Wild Wings
  5. Pool, BBQ, and fireworks at Michaels grandparents house.
  6. Lunch, Coffee Bean, and games with our friends Josh and Jenna and their son Greyson while they were in town. Jenna also gave me the headbands I won from her giveaway on her blog, which are super cute! She also made me an adorable diaper/wipe carrier and filled it for me!
{Image was stolen from Jenna's Blog :-)}

The last few days haven't all been fun and games. My niece, Skylar, was born on July 2nd (only about a week early). Tiffany hadn't felt the baby move in a little while so she went in to make sure everything was okay. Skylars heartbeat wasn't right so they did an emergency C-Section. It turns out there was a blood clot in the umbilical cord. She has been in the NICU with an infection in her lungs among other things. At this point, Skylar is still fully dependent on her ventilator. We are obviously all very worried and praying for a quick recovery. She has her very own nurse to watch over her at all times. She's a beautiful little baby and we all love her so much already. Please keep her and her family in your prayers!

My Weekend Recap!

I had such a good weekend! Friday night I went to Golden Spoon with Kelli and then we watched Remember Me. It was a good movie but seriously just a sad ending. I hate sad endings!

On Saturday morning, while I was waiting for Michael to wake up, I watched Dear John. I really liked this movie! Not only because I love the two lead actors, it was just a good story line and I love how they touched on autism too. It was just a really sweet movie.

After Michael woke up, we went to the pool with Kelli and layed out for a little while. Then we just ran some errands and Michael had to go to work. Jexi kept me company while I got ready to go out.

On Saturday night I met up with Rosie. We were good friends in middle school and the first half of our freshman year until I moved to Orange County. We had lost contact and not seen each other in about eight years so we were both really excited to meet up! Michael made me wear tennis shoes just in case she turned out to be a physco and I had to run away. Can you say paranoid? We had a good laugh about that. I picked her up at her sisters place (her sister lives in OC) and we went to Olive Garden. Mmmm!

It was a lot of fun to chat with her. We had so much to catch up on! After dinner we decided to drive around until we saw a place to shop or something. We ended up finding a little shopping center that we went from store to store in. This is us trying on sunglasses.

We both ended up getting these ones and I also got aviator glasses (the glasses were only $5.00 each!) and two beach towels. We finished off the night by going to a self serve frozen yogurt place in the area. I told her she better come visit again soon!

Sunday was 4th of July! We went to church and then went to Michael's grandma's house (as is tradition) with his family and mine too. This is the view from their backyard. You can't really tell but it's up on a hill and from there you can see Disneyland fireworks, Anaheim stadium fireworks, along with several other shows going on at the same time.

Michael's papa is always over at the grill slaving away...this time we had hot dogs and hamburgers. He also makes really great lemon chicken.

We hung out eating snacks for a while before the fireworks started. Of course, we had to bring the baby. My sister was a huge help in watching her and holding her for us.

My brother Steven, my mom, MIL, and FIL.

Getting ready for the fireworks to start! Doesn't he look so cute?! He's wearing his new jacket :-).

This is how we ended up staying warm outside.

See? Haha.

It was a smaller group this year than last year though. My dad is on a business trip but I really think he might have been avoiding the whole thing because last year he fell in the pool...poor guy. :-) Next time we will put little hazard cones up for you!

On Monday, Michael and I both had the day off of work and so we had plans to lay at the pool again until we looked out the window and saw that it was all overcast outside. What the heck?! And today it's all rainy. Isn't it July?? Oh well. We ended up being way more productive and thoroughly cleaned our whole apartment. I'm talking floors, dishes, laundry, dusting, vacuuming, bathrooms, kitchen...everything! It feels good to have a clean place again! :-) Not that we are always filthy or anything, but still! I love the feeling after you finish cleaning.

After we cleaned ourselves up, we went to see Eclipse!! We had waited a few days to go see it in hopes of avoiding the crowds and screaming little girls and not so little women who scream as Edward or Jacob enters a scene or when someone is kissing. Keep it to yourself, ladies!

It worked though! I was able to watch the movie in peace! Haha. Michael always says he wishes there wasn't so much buildup to the action just to have a few minutes of actual fighting. I really liked it! It's the best movie yet, in my opinion. I thought Bella looked really pretty and she's starting to look like a vampire. The movie stayed pretty close to the book. I can't wait for the next movie! I'm curious how they will put on film some of the things that happen in the book.

We haven't heard anything back from any of the other houses yet, but that's okay! It will happen when the time is right. I'm just enjoying life and trying not to stress about the things that I don't have control over. I have another long weekend coming up this week, too! :-) I hope you all had a great fourth of July and you got to spend it with your loves ones.
