ROC Race

This weekend was my Ridiculous Obstacle Challenge 5k!! I've been getting into shape but have still been so nervous about it. I was happy to see that it wasn't competitive at all (I love a good competition- but not in running). It was like jog, walk, jog, wait in line, do an obstacle, repeat. It was pretty fun!

There were a ton of obstacles like jumping hurdles and a wall, swinging on a rope over muddy water and hoping not to fall, tightrope (with workers who jumped on the rope and tried to make you fall in more muddy water), a water slide that you slide down face first into muddy, rocky, water on an inner-tube, worlds largest slide (with water), and more! The hardest one was walking across pillars (over muddy water of course) that have the ability to spin if you lose your balance PLUS avoiding the giant balls that are rotating around and knocking people in. Does that make sense?

I was lucky enough to have Michael, Emily, and my parents there to cheer us on at the end- and take pictures!

Kelli and me when we first got to the race, still in the car and so nervous!

Wendy, me, Kelli right before the race started.

This was a bounce house thing that you just run and jump across. I fell down a level and when I tried getting back up Kelli jumped on it and I fell back down, lol. This is Wendy and Me on the left.
We found our cheer squads and stopped for a picture...we were soaking wet by this point. And scraped/bruised!

This was so funny. We were racing along to our last couple of obstacles and our families were running with carts and strollers next to us to keep up. I couldn't stop laughing.

Wendy and Kelli going down the water slide! If you really want a laugh, zoom in on our faces....

My turn!

We finished!! We were all sunburned, tired, and sore by the end but it was well worth it!

Family picture! There's a tiny room with windows behind me where people were dancing in soapy bubbles to "clean off". Pass!

Battle wounds...

I'm so glad I participated! Definitely look it up and see if it's going to be close to you sometime.

Happies and Crappies

Scissors and a Whisk: Happies and Crappies Link Up

Where did this week go?! What did I even do this week? Let's see if I can come up with some Happies and Crappies...

Happies:

- I've been dog sitting my parents dog again. It's nice to have him around because Emily loves playing with him (aka chasing him around, feeding him her food, etc).

-Lot's of success with Scentsy this past week! Very exciting!

- My brother Steven turned 28 and my other brother Brian turned 30! They're single, ladies!!

- Enjoying the little kiddie pool outside with Emily. Seeing Emily look adorable, Michael lookin' hot, and feeling more confident in my bikini (in my backyard).

- Emily has been very lovey lately and I'm soaking it up!

Crappies:

- My parents dog has been missing my mom. How can I tell? Do you know how hard it is to share a bed with this giant dog and my dog? Thank goodness Michael works nights, haha!

- Our house is being over run by earwigs and spiders. This is the worst season of the year for me as far as bug season and allergies.

- Haven't worked out that much this week. I did, however, run a mile on the treadmill for like the first time ever. Hahaha. My time sucked. But I'm hoping to do my first 5k in June with my friend Wendy!

I'd say overall this week was a good one! Have a great weekend!

Food and Shopping Date? Yes, please.

After having such a good weekend, I was a little nervous that yesterday would be a let down. The day started off good with some gym time for both of us. We kinda-sorta had plans to try to go on a date while a friend of mine watched Emily for us but one of her kids got sick so we ended up going on our "date" with Emily in tow.

Emily did well in the car as long as we kept handing her snacks to munch on. She would raise her hand up and start to whine impatiently if we weren't fast enough with the grub. Here's a picture of the hilarity.

After driving around and around trying to decide (agree) on a place that we both wanted to eat at and that we could take Emily to, I convinced Michael to let us eat at Panera. I love Panera!! I got the BBQ chicken salad, bread, and broccoli cheese soup. Oh my goodness. YUM.

Emily even liked it! If you know Emily, you know that feeding her is an ordeal. No food thrown on the floor means it was a success in my book!

After we stuffed ourselves, we did some shopping nearby. I got to use a giftcard I had to get some much needed new cropped jeans (it's already so warm here) and a shirt. I got my first pear of jeans there a couple months ago and they are my favorite ones. I don't even wear other jeans anymore!

I also got these pretty new bad boys!

Remember how I wanted some but didn't want to spend a fortune on them? I looked around Nordstrom Rack to see if I could get a good deal- bam! $43! That's a whole lot cheaper than I've seen them at other places! Still pricey but you know what? I've been wearing my work out shoes more than my regular shoes these days! I'm excited to not wear clunky running shoes anymore!

Anyways, it was obviously a great date. We all had fun and I got spoiled. Win! ;)

A Gym Rat Rant

Going to the gym several times a week has been great for my physical and mental fitness. But there are some things that just irritate me when I go. Here are some of those things:
  • People who are there for reasons other than to work out. Like being there to pick up on someone.
  • Girls who wear skantily clad clothing. If I see your boobs or your butt cheeks, you need more clothing! I don't want to see that!
  • Those who wear jeans to work out.
  • Women who wear their long hair down while doing cardio exercise. I don't get it! Doesn't it annoy them?! This one lady had hair litereally down to her butt in my Zumba class.
  • Full face of fresh makeup.
  • Women who don't wear bras. I mean, really. This should be a rule. Wear. A. Bra.
  • Men who stare and/or wink at you creepily. I came to work out. Not to be gawked at.
  • Women wearing leggings that are so thin I can see their underwear when they bend over. Again, I don't want to see that!
  • Seeing people who are there but aren't really there. When I see someone on the cycle machine reading a book and pedaling so slowly that it probably isn't even turned on. Or in a class when someone is barely even moving.
That last one used to be me. I would go and just kinda barely work out. I would do the minimal amount. But now after this newfound love of getting in shape and different mindset, I just want others to feel the same sense of pride after they work out that I do. When I leave the gym sweaty and red faced with a smile, I love it! I know everyone has a right to work out however they want. And anything is better than nothing! I just want to tell those people to that if you are going to be there- BE THERE! Try hard! Do your best! Don't half heartily do it.

End rant :)

I Look Like Jim Carrey Doing Zumba

Alright so just a quick catch up on what we've been up to...Emily got a cold last week, then I got it over the weekend, and then Michael. So we've all been kinda sick and not much happened over the weekend other then General Conference (church on TV every 6 months) and selling a bunch of Scentsy! Woohoo! It was great but bad timing with me being sick! Thought it was allergies otherwise I would have cancelled.

On Monday we headed out to Orange County to see some family. Emily got to hang with her cousin Ellie. They like sitting in this one chair together but it's pretty much impossible to get a non blurry picture of them together these days. They are little energizer bunnies!

We had my brothers birthday dinner and got to hang out with friends and family.
I love this picture my friend Kelli took!

Kelli and I have been friends since we were freshmen in high school. That's over ten years now. Crazy! She came to the birthday dinner and then I went out with her to get some frozen yogurt.
She's also the friend I am playing match-maker for.

In other news...I had to take a few days off of working out while I was sick (because I got winded just walking around) but I finally got back at it on Tuesday night! Then again Wednesday morning. It feels so good to get in shape!

Does anyone else have these baby hairs? They are from my hair falling out after pregnancy and now they are slowly growing back but they fall out of my pony tail while I work out!

Also, I need to get new workout shoes. I'm pretty much the only girl not sporting adorable nike shoes like this. I WANT!

I think of this picture almost every time I do Zumba. I even sometimes start to laugh randomly in class because of it.

I hope ya'll are having a good week!

Happies and Crappies

Scissors and a Whisk: Happies and Crappies Link Up

I'm linking up for the first time today to do Happies and Crappies with my new blog friends Sarah and Stephanie! What is "Happies and Crappies"? Basically a list of all the good and bad that occurred during the week! Fun, right?! Go link up!

Happies:

 - We got to spend time with family and friends on Monday. We had a game night for the second time this month! (By the way, my friend Wendy and I are setting up her brother with one of my best friends. All of which are pictured below!)

-Michael is on vacation so we've been able to spend so much more time together! We've gone out to eat a couple of times. One of which was yesterday. We went to BJ's for their two for $20 special. Yum!

-We had our church's Easter Egg Hunt this week! We had practiced with Emily around the house earlier in the day so that by the time it came down to business, she would be awesome at it. She didn't disappoint! She knows the word "egg" now. She also knows "I dunno" and "I got it!". Haha!

- I got compliments on my necklace at the Easter Egg hunt! :)

- I've still been able to keep up with going to the gym! I kind of love it, actually. I want to go every day now! And with Michael being on vacation, I can! I love feeling myself get stronger with each workout I do. I weighed myself the other day and I actually weigh more but it must be from fat turning to muscle because I'm not getting any bigger but I am getting more toned!

- My sister is officially serving as a missionary in Berlin, Germany! Which brings me to my next "happy"...I've been reading my scriptures every night for the past two months and I'm so glad I got back into the habit. I feel like I'm getting my life in all sorts of order lately! Spiritually, physically, and mentally.

Crappies:

- Our water heater broke so we had to take cold showers on Wednesday. I'm pretty sure our neighbors were probably wondering what all the screaming was about. COLD WATER! On Thursday I just took a shower at the gym after my workout. Much better! We've bathed Emily in the sink with water we pour in after heating it on the stove. Ghetto!! Hoping to get it fixed in the next day or so!

- Talked to a personal trainer briefly (of course he tried to get me to sign up to do once a week sessions with him for $140 a month- who's got that extra money laying around?) about how my toes on my right foot go numb when I do cardio exercise. It's been like that for years but it's getting a little more annoying lately. He thinks I need to see a doctor for an MRI (scary word) to see if it's something like a messed up disc in my back or a nerve or something. He said if I don't get it "taken care of", the numbness might spread up my leg to my hip eventually. Umm...I guess I need to see a doctor. I always thought it was my shoes that were the problem.

-One of my best friends since like 5th grade called to let me know her mom has breast cancer. She is going in for surgery early next month so please keep her in your prayers! Hoping they get it all and that she will be okay. I love that family!

It's Ok Thursday

Hey, It's Okay...

Its Ok Thursdays

  • That I haven't had a chance to blog since Monday's giveaway because I've been busy playing matchmaker for a friend (which is so much fun but also hard work when you have to spend the night out of town to get a group together...).
  • To be proud of myself for working out again. I love the gym I'm going to and the classes! Feeling myself get stronger is so awesome.
  • To still enjoy eating dessert!

  • That I love cutting up fresh strawberries and bananas and storing them in the freezer to use in smoothies. We pretty much drink smoothies every single day! Emily loves them too!
  • That I think of blog post ideas way more than I actually write them.
  • To watch older TV shows! I love watching my DVDs of Friends, my sisters DVDs of Gilmore Girls, and lots of other shows on Netflix!
  • That I only wear makeup these days when I'm getting together with friends and family. Grocery shopping, gym, at home, etc.? Not so much.
