This Isn't A One Way Street
I've been thinking a lot about what makes blogging enjoyable for me. I've always loved to write. I wrote for my high school newspaper, wrote online journals with the old livejournal.com in addition to paper diaries, and loved writing assignments in college. After I got married a friend of mine recommend that I blog about our day to day life through a blog so that family and friends could keep up with us better. My blog has always been focused around my family. I even print out most of my blog posts and make it into books every year so that we have kind of a family journal to look back at in years to come.
Eventually my blog turned from all about our day to day life, to adding in some extra things just for fun. Like the random shopping trips or linkups. I've also been paid to write reviews and things, which is nice! But the best part (other than journalism) of blogging for me has become the relationships I've formed with other bloggers.
Blogging takes a lot of time and energy. In the last couple of months, I've really made more of an effort to read almost every blog I follows' posts AND comment. I was starting to feel like it was often a one way street. If I take the time to read your blog and comment on it daily, and I never hear back from you or see you return the favor and try to get to know me too, it's not worth it. Nobody wants a friend who takes, takes, takes, and never gives anything back, right?
So, then I started to pay more attention to which blogs I actually want to read because I am friends with the blogger. I can put more focus on those friendships that go both ways now that I started unfollowing those who don't even know I exist.
If you leave me a comment, I always try to at least reply back through an email. If you don't receive a reply it's because you don't have an email set up for your comments. (If you need help setting that up let me know!) I don't want any of you to ever feel like I think I'm too good for you or that I'm ignoring you. That is never my intention! So, please, if you follow my blog and are an avid reader and feel that way, please tell me! You can never have too many friends! :)
