My Boss Put Her Head On Her Desk...

My heart is beating too fast. My pulse is racing. My face is turning pink. My eyes are watering. It's time to quit my job. I need to give them notice now. Now that we are sure we are moving! We are getting a house!! I still can't believe it. I'm chickening out every time I try to work up the nerve to take those 10 steps to my bosses office. But I need to just get it over with....

************************************

I DID IT!

I'm shaking like crazy. Sheesh. I'm such a baby!

This is how it went down...

Me: Can I talk to you for a minute?

Her: Sure.

Me: (closing the door behind me and sitting down trying not to panic) I need to quit.

Her: (puts her head down on her desk)

Me: I'm really sorry! I didn't want to. I love it here. It's just too far...I wanted to give you as much notice as I could. September 3rd.

Her: (lifts her head) Yeah, I understand.

Me: I'm really sorry.

Her: I was thinking it would be a long commute for you...

Me: Yeah...it would take me hours to get here and it's just not worth it.

Her: Do you have a job out there?

Me: No. We looked for a house we could afford without me working so it's not all that urgent for me to work out there.

Her: I'm just worried they won't let me replace you.

(They being the company.)

Me: Yeah...

Her: They think I don't need you plus a receptionist.

Me: What will you do if they don't let you replace me?

Her: I don't know. I don't know what we will do because there are things you do that requires you to get up and walk around the office and she can't leave the phones.

Me: Yeah, she would need to do things other than at the front desk. I'm really sorry.

Her: Yeah, I tell ____ (my manager who commutes but not as far as I would...) all the time that I could never commute like her.

Me: Yeah. It's just not worth it...we tried looking around at closer locations but this is just how it is.

Her: Thanks for giving me a lot of notice.

Me: Uh huh. (stammering and appologizing some more as I exit)

Well, at least I did it!!
I can relax now and focus on wrapping up my job and getting things planned for the move!

Let me take a moment to sentimental...I do like my job.

I will miss seeing the beautiful buildings every day.

One less thing you need to worry about lady! Now you can focus on the move and your new home! I hate moving, it is so annoying, so I wish you luck!

I bet that is a weight lifted off of your shoulders. I can't stand awkward conversations like that. Ha!

I know that was difficult for you because you really like the people you work with. I'm proud of you. :)

For some reason, I always feel guilty when I leave a job too.

Husband and I are looking for a place we can afford without me having to work too, and I'm honestly ALREADY feeling guilty about it, even though we're nowhere near purchasing yet.

I remember how much I dreaded giving my notice because I really did love my job and the people I worked with. I swear I got sick so many times before I actually did it. But it always feels better once you do.

Glad you got it over with and good luck with the move. Those pictures look a lot like where I work (in Costa Mesa)... Very pretty

I would of felt the exact same anxiety and nervousness you did! Things like that are so scary to me. I bet you're so glad it's done with, yay!

That will help you feel so much better. Is that LA? No wonder you didn't want to commute! That's way too far! Even with using the train!

Way to go! You did it! It was so hard when I left my job. I cried like a baby, and my boss was not nice.

Later that day she hugged me.. and when I handed out my notice to all my parents, she gave me a big hug and we cried together.

I am so glad I made the move, but it was SO hard leaving! I feel your pain girl!

I am glad you were able to tell your boss. I was the same way when I use to work and needed to quit.

I take it you live in the city with all the tall buildings.. ha! I am a country girl in east TN!
