Dream Vacation Planning

You know how we were going to go on that cruise to Mexico? Well, it turns out that we waited too long to book it and now the prices are a lot higher than they were. We (Michael) decided that we should try going somewhere else instead, even if it means more money spent. I started looking around at what we could afford and I came up with...
Santa Barbara. It's beautiful! And pretty decent prices with hotels. We would be able to drive there too, so we wouldn't need to rent a car or anything. Ahh a few days on a beach and shopping sounds like heaven to me! But Michael wanted to look farther away. So then I started thinking about...
San Francisco! I've been there before and I remember having a lot of fun on the trolly's and in China Town. I really don't know what else there is to do there. Alcatraz? But then Michael started thinking way bigger (and more expensive!). We started dreaming of a trip to...
New York! I have never been there before and I always thought it would be fun to go to Central Park, see the Statue of Liberty, a Broadway show, visit Times Square...etc, etc. BUT it would cost a pretty penny to fly out there, stay at a hotel, take taxis, and then the cost of money and entertainment.

Well, we are blessed enough to happen to know someone that might give us hook ups for a few days (for free!) at one of the resorts or condos in the area of New York OR San Francisco! He will be letting us know what he can do for us, but wouldn't that be wonderful?! If we could go to NYC without worrying about the cost of a hotel...that would be a once in a lifetime thing. Plus, we don't have kids yet so it's going to be just us!!

People keep telling us to enjoy this time we have alone together before we have little munchkins pulling on us or screaming for our attention constantly. Not that being a parent is always terrible, of course! We do look forward to having children some day. But while it is just us two, it's the perfect time to go do things like this. It's hard to get the time off and then be able to afford trips, but it's worth it I think to have the memories and to know that we did get out and do things like this before we had kids. Haha, I talk like having kids is the end of the world, don't I?? I consider having children to be..the end of an era. The end of just him and I. The end of our selfishness :-).

What do you think about our ideas of places to go? Do you have any other ideas? What do you think about doing things like this while we have the time, money, and energy? Without kids? Do you have kids and are still able to go on vacations? I'm curious what you have to say!

Also, if you haven't added yourself as a follower to my blog, please do! It's silly, but it makes me feel good whenever I see someone else added me. I know, I know. It's rediculous. But...I don't have children! I need to feel love elsewhere! :-)

I need to get a dog.

Sounds like so much fun! I hope you get to take your trip. And really, it's not so bad going places with kids. Rob and I went to Mexico with Grace when she was only a month old! It's getting a little harder to travel now that she's wanting her independence, so we'll just have to focus closer to home. And, though I'm not an official follower of your blog, I follow you in my Google reader...does that count? I know you can't really see that I'm following you, but now you know, so you can feel some love coming from my direction :) Amanda

Kevin and I drove up the Ca. coast one time and stopped in a bunch of places along the way. Solvang, Santa Barbara, Pismo Beach, etc. It was so nice! Since we drove it wasn't that expensive and the drive is beautiful! NYC is fun and I guess one of those have to go places at some point. I think it's kinda overrated, though. I loved seeing other places back east like US and LDS historical places. Washington D.C. is very cool, though. Our favorite destination is Disneyworld! Can't go too long without going! Have you ever gone to time share meetings? We would find a hotel that is also sells timeshares and ask if they will give us a discount if we go to the meeting. We have gotten lots of half off rooms and show tickets that way. As far as kids go, we travel with Josie all the time! I don't think it's that hard, it's usually just a money thing. Suddenly all your money goes elsewhere, lol!

How do you follow people? I have no idea.

Thanks for the comments! Those are great ideas. I have looked at going up the coast too. And also doing DC.
Jenna, to follow you just go to the top of my blog and towards the left will be a "follow" button thing. By the search bar. It's kind of like "friend requesting" on facebook.

Just found your blog! :)

I live in the SF Bay Area, and I can't speak highly enough about how amazing it is! Even as someone who lives here I never run out of things to do. Feel free to email me (thestartupwife@gmail.com) if you end up coming here and want tips on what to do, or if you need more convincing! ;)

I'm a semi-newlywed too (it'll be two years in June) and I totally agree about traveling together and spending time with just the two of you before kids--I'm sure that changes your life in all kinds of ways and, when we do have kids (hopefully), I'm looking forward to remembering the early days in our marriage.

Oh man! There is so much to explore here in Cali. We fell in love with Santa Barbara on our honeymoon. I would definitely be able to give you lots of great places to eat. San Diego would be good too! We live here so of course know all the great spots. When are you planning your trip for? S.F. and nor cal and pretty chilly until May but you know that.

If we don't end up going to NY we will most likely go to SB because I want to go somewhere warm. If we do go there I will talk to you about what we should do and places we should go and stuff. Thanks!

Well, given that it's February in Indiana, Santa Barbara sounds lovely to me! But NYC - especially with a free hotel - would be a dream too! Have fun planning...
