Road To Recovery

I had posts scheduled so you may not have noticed that I have been out of commission unless you saw me rant about it on Facebook or Twitter.

Basically, I woke up last Monday with a sore neck. It progressively got worse and worse so on Wednesday I went to the chiropractor (who worked miracles when I was pregnant). The next morning I woke up at 4:30 am in such intense pain. I couldn't move. Michael had to help me out of bed and we went to the hospital.
I could only walk super slow and hunched over a little bit. For some reason my muscles only allowed me to have my head tilted to the left so I felt like I looked like a zombie.

We had to wait until 8:30 am for the urgent care to even open and then we had to wait some more in the waiting room after we checked in. I cried while I sat there (imagine my emberassment with crying in public, walking and sitting in awkward posititions, and still wearing pj's), trying hard not to move at all because it was so painful. The pain spread across my shoulders and down my neck and most of my back. I was getting more and more upset at how they aren't helping someone right away who is CLEARLY in a lot of pain.

We finally got in to see the doctor. He said it was a muscle spasm along my spine that spreads and worsens with time until you break the cycle with medicine to relax the muscles. I was prescribed two different kinds at low doses because I am breastfeeding.

Driving to and from the hospital was painful as well because every bump and turn hurt. I had to try hard not to scream because I didn't want to scare Emily.
The next few days Michael took care of Emily while I layed on the couch, basically crippled. The medicine did just enough to make it not hurt if I didn't move but I was still so stiff and sore I had to hold pretty still. It broke my heart that I couldn't hold Emily unless I was breastfeeding. She kept holding her arms out to me. :(
Michael had to go back to work Sunday-Tuesday so Emily and I stayed at my inlaws so they could help me with Emily since I still was recovering. I had to keep reminding myself that I couldn't do things even if I was feeling a little better. On Tuesday I went into Michaels grandma's hot tub and that helped massage and relax my muscles.

Michael is off work for the next couple of days so we are back home now. My right side is totally fine. It's just my left that still hurts if I move it a certain way or put too much weight on it. But I am on my way to being fully recovered.

I can't thank Michael and Diana enough. I don't know what I would have done without them!! My mom came for a couple hours one day and my sister came to see us every night for a couple hours. I feel so blessed to have such great family.

Anyway, that's what we have been up to the last week and a half!
Oh and Emily turned 9 months old on Monday so I will be posting about that soon too!

Oh no! Back pain is the worst. There have been a few times when I've known that want-to-scream sort of pain. It just immobilizes you. I hope you feel better soon!
